If you're planning to be in Paris for a week, that leaves more time to go a little further afield and off the beaten track! So, whether you're a culture vulture, fantastic foodie, happy historian or simply want to take it all in, we've got you sorted with a few top ideas to get that travel inspiration going...

Moulin Rouge

Located in the Pigalle district, this world-famous cabaret is commonly recognised as the birthplace of the can-can, which you’ve surely either heard of, or conducted yourself after a few glasses of fizz. Whether you’d like to watch a show or have dinner too, it’s a beautiful place to visit that has featured in no fewer than twelve movies. Top tip: it’s cheaper to visit shows during the day, but make sure you turn up on time, even if you’re pre-booking.

Notre Dame Cathedral

This is a truly monumental French-Gothic masterpiece, and it’s an absolutely must-see on your trip to Paris. Whether you’re simply admiring it from the outside, or you plan on heading inside for a look around the interior, you’re sure to be delighted. There are ample opportunities for photographs, and you should definitely keep a watchful eye on the gargoyles.

The Archaeological Crypt of Notre Dame

The Crypte Archéologique is a large, open space that sits underneath the square outside the Notre Dame cathedral. Once underground, you’ll be practically within touching distance of ancient Roman ruins, the foundations of the medieval city and slightly more modern constructs. Explore interesting and informative displays, explaining the development of the city over the years. The maps on display help you to understand the motifs for the design of the city, and its development into the modern marvel it is today.

The Eiffel Tower

When deciding what to do in Paris for a week, the Eiffel Tower is bound to come up. It’s a true marvel, and even better to go up and see the views of the city. Whichever angle you see this from; it’s quite easy to see how this has ultimately become the symbol of France. Liberté, égalité, fraternité.

Palace of Versailles

Wow. What a place. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the largest castles in the world, and an insightful reminder of historic French decadence. Built by King Louis XIII, it was the seat of the French government until 1789. The incredible rooms and apartments located within the main palace, such as the Grand Apartment, will delight any architecture or history buffs. There are also vast gardens to relax in, manicured to a level that would invoke envy in any passionate gardener. Another highlight is the Hall of Mirrors, which reflect the gardens through the arched windows. If you're planning to be in Paris for a week, you should definitely dedicate a day to getting out the city and exploring this historical landmark.

Catacombs of Paris

Under the streets of Paris, there’s an underground network of tunnels with a deep, dark secret. Due to a series of cave-ins and the problem of overflowing cemeteries, a series of purpose-built facilities were carved beneath the city, in order to transfer human remains and free up space. Reportedly, over 6 million plus bodies are arranged meticulously in walls of bone, you’re literally within touching distance of human remains. If you do decide to visit here, make sure you turn up early as the queues can get pretty big, and don’t bring any large bags or luggage as entry isn’t permitted with these.

Flam’s for food

Flam’s is the home of the Flammekueche, which is a gastronomic speciality dish of Alsace. This delicious treat is constructed from a thin layer of tasty dough, which is heartily covered with cream and soft white cheese. It’s then seasoned, topped with onions, diced bacon and other mouthwatering toppings. Trust us, you’ll be drooling by the time you’re about to tuck in! They also have a wide choice of other eats, along with an all you can eat buffet, so it’s the perfect place for everyone to refuel, recharge and relax for a moment.
