Paris Cocktail Week 2016

Forget Dry January and make the most of Paris Cocktail Week 2016, running from the 23rd to 30th January. Seven whole days dedicated to cocktail making and tasting in Paris, to try new things, explore new flavours and push the boundaries of mixology! This year there are 50 participating bars who are each designing two signature cocktails especially for the event - so there's no excuse not to broaden your horizons and challenge your tastebuds, all in the name of research, of coures. If you're a budding mixologist, then don't miss the Paris Cocktail Week Academy, new this year, held at the Grande Epicerie, and learn about how to pair which cocktails with which food with the help of top restaurateurs and chefs who are joining the event. You can even attend a cocktail masterclass if you want to get hands on and rustle up your own concoction. To get you in the mood, here are some fun facts: Did you know...?

  • Over half of all alcoholic beverages ordered every weekend in Paris are cocktails
  • 12% of the cocktail bars in Paris have more than 20 cocktails on their menu
  • The mojito is the most ordered cocktail
  • The popular Bloody Mary cocktail was created in 1921 at the Ritz Hotel in Paris. Mary Welsh, also known as Bloody Mary because of her temper tantrum, was none other than the wife of Ernest Hemingway. It is said that Hemingway asked the barman to create a cocktail that would leave no scent of alcohol on his breath so that he could go home without the fear of setting off his angry wife...
